IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria 2019: Check If You Are Eligible Or Not

IBPS PO is one of the most democratic examinations in India in terms of eligibility criteria just like the UPSC Civil Services or SSC CGL Examinations and certainly unlike the elitist exams such as the RBI Grade B or SEBI Grade ‘A’ Exams. Nationality:

The applicant must be either -

  •  a Citizen of India or
  •  a subject of Nepal/ Bhutan or  a Tibetan Refugee 
  •  a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
  • All such migrant candidates should have the certificate of eligibility issued to them by the Government of India. 

Age Criteria:

  • Minimum Age- 20 years
  • Maximum Age- 30 years
  • The determination of age-limit for IBPS PO will be based as on 01.08.2019. 

However, the following relaxations are applicable to the age limits to certain categories of candidates-

Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribes 

5 years

Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy layer) 

3 years

Persons with benchmark disabilities as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016

10 years

Ex-Serviceman 

5 years 

Persons originally domiciled in the State of Jammu and Kashmir between 01.01.1980 and 31.12.1989

5 years

Persons affected in the 1984 riots 

5 years


Educational Qualification:

  • It is mandatory for the candidate to carry a Bachelor's Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a University recognized by the Govt. Of India.
  • The candidate must possess a valid Mark-sheet / Degree Certificate indicating the percentage of marks obtained in Graduation while registering online.
  • The percentage in the graduation should be calculated according to the total marks secured divided by the aggregate marks for all the subjects in all the years and then the same should be multiplied by 100. The fraction of percentage so arrived will be ignored i.e. 59.99% will be treated as less than 60% and 54.99% will be treated as less than 55%. So, with 59.99% marks, you will not be considered as having the First Class degree.
