Recently the government has announced to divert Chenab river water through tunnels to speed up the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project in Jammu and Kashmir. Located in Kishtwar district, the project is a run-of-river hydroelectric initiative on the Chenab River. Ratle is being developed by Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation (RHPCL) as a joint venture between Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. It consists of a 133 meter long concrete gravity dam, a diversion dam and an underground power house.
