SSC GD Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Staff Selection Commission conducts the GD Exam, i.e. General Duty Constable competitive examinations every year to recruit eligible candidates for the posts of General Duty, Rifleman, Inspector and Sub Inspector in the Paramilitary Forces such as Armed Forces Border (SSB), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), India Tibet, Border Police Force (ITBP), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and National Investigation Agency (NIA).

SSC GD Selection Process:

The SSC GD Constable Examination is mainly conducted in 3 stages. All stages of the examination are compulsory, failed in any stage and you'll no longer be the SSC GD candidate. The 3 stages are as follows-

1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)
2. Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
3. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)

SSC GD Constable - Latest Exam Pattern

The exam pattern for all three phases has been described below-

(1) Computer-Based Test (CBT):

The Computer Based Examination (CBE) is the first stage of the SSC GD exam. In order to take the CBE exam, the candidate is provided with a computer at the examination center which carries the SSC GD Constable Examination Question Paper, and the candidate has to answer in the same computer.

Important Points-

1. All the questions asked in the exam are Objective-Type.
2. Four choices are given in response to every question, in which only one correct option has to be selected.
3. There are certain minimum marks, called Minimum Qualifying Marks, decided by the authorities that are necessary to acquire by the candidates in order to pass the examination, that are-

• For General/ Ex-Serviceman: 35% marks
• For OBC/ ST/ SC: 33% marks

After passing this exam, candidates can enter the second phase.

(2) Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

Based on their performance in the Computer Based Test (CBE), the candidates are shortlisted for the second stage, i.e.  PST and PET by the Commission. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standards Test (PST) are conducted at various centers finalized by the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). 

Doing a job in the Armed Forces takes a lot more than just the intelligence, it takes physical and mental fitness. In order to apply for these jobs, candidates need to fulfill certain medical aspects of the physical tests, as given below-

(3) Detailed Medical Examination (DME)

The objective of medical standards is to ensure that only medically fit candidates will be selected in the paramilitary force. The Medical examination is based on the following criteria:

• Your eyesight should be 6/6.
• You must come to recognize colors (No color blindness)
• Laser surgery is not permitted.
• If you put glasses, you are rejected.
• There should be no difficulty in hearing.
• Your weight should be according to length and age.

If the candidate is upset with any of these things (bent knees, flat feet, varicose veins, pleurisy in the eyes) then you'll be sided from the examination.

SSC GD Exam Syllabus:

In the first phase of the SSC GD exam, questions from 4 subjects, i.e. Mathematics, General Intelligence, and Reasoning, General Awareness, Hindi / English will be asked. The topics covered in these subjects are mentioned below-

Mathematics -

Number System, Algebra, Ratio, Interest, Percentage, Simplification, Geometry, Average, Decimal, Ratio, Percentage, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and loss, geometry, trigonometry, trigonometry, elementary statistics, square root, age calculation, calendar, and clock, etc. are asked. This paper tests the ability of applicants to think and understand and problem-solving skills.

General Intelligence and Reasoning -

The main objective of this test is to check the mental capacity, general blood relations and logical strength of the applicants. It includes analogies, alphabet and number series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, relationships, data interpretation and efficiency, inference and decision making, similarities and differences, analytical reasoning, classification, instructions, statement-logic and values, etc.

General Awareness -

This part of SSC GD Constable CBT is to test the all-round knowledge of the candidate about current events and general awareness about the society. Questions related to general knowledge include current affairs knowledge, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian politics, and constitution, Indian economy, environmental issues related to India and the world, sports, general scientific and technological development, etc. are included.

Hindi/English language -

The subject of Hindi or English language is common in all SSC exams. The objective of the subject is to check the basic understanding of the candidate, correct grammar usage of Hindi / English language, vocabulary usage and writing ability. The following questions are asked in Hindi / English language-

For Hindi- Common inaccuracies and word forms of words, feminine of words, plural, change of a sentence to other gender, idioms and their meaning, pure forms of impure sentences, antonyms, synonyms and synonyms, one word for multiple words, Meaning of Proverbs and Locomotives, Disjunction, Making Nouns from the Verb, Composition, and Creator, etc.

For English- Spot error, Fill in the blanks, Synonyms/Antonyms, Spelling/ detecting-miss spell wards, Idioms and Phrases, One-word Substitution, Sentence Improvement, Active/Passive Voice , Verbs, etc.
