Ex.6. An express train travelled at an average speed of 100 km/ hr, stopping for 3 minutes after every 75 km. How long did it take to reach its destination 600 km form the starting point?

 

Total time of stoppages = (3 × 7) min = 21 min.

Hence, the total time taken = 6hrs 21 min.

Ex.7. A man in a train notices that he can count 21 telephone posts in one minute. If they are known to be 50 metres apart, then at what speed is the train travelling?

Number of gaps between 21 telephone posts = 20.

Ex.8. An express train travelled at an average speed of 100 km/ hr, stopping for 3 minutes after every 75 km. How long did it take to reach its destination 600 km form the starting point?

 

Total time of stoppages = (3 × 7) min = 21 min.

Hence, the total time taken = 6hrs 21 min.

Ex.9. A train travels at an average of 50 miles per hour for  hours and then travels at a speed of 70 miles per hours for  hours. How far did the train travel in the entire 4 hours?

Ex.10. Sound is said to travel in air at about 1100 feet per second. A man hears the axe striking the tree,   second after he see it strike the tree. How fair is the man from the wood chopper?
