Stage 1: Screening Test

Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test: It consists of verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions to assess the candidate's intelligence and logical reasoning abilities.

Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT): Candidates view a picture for a limited time and then write a story based on the picture. This test assesses the candidate's imagination, communication skills, and ability to provide a logical and coherent narration.

Stage 2: Psychological Tests

Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): Candidates are shown pictures and asked to write a story based on each picture. It evaluates the candidate's imagination, perception, and interpretation skills.

Word Association Test (WAT): Candidates are presented with a set of words and need to write a sentence or phrase related to each word within a given time limit. This test assesses the candidate's personality traits, thought processes, and response patterns.

Situation Reaction Test (SRT): Candidates are provided with hypothetical situations and asked to provide their responses. It evaluates the candidate's judgment, decision-making abilities, and crisis management skills.

Self-Description Test (SD): Candidates write a self-description, highlighting their positive and negative qualities, strengths, and weaknesses. It aims to assess self-awareness and the ability to introspect.

Stage 3: Group Testing

Group Discussion (GD): Candidates engage in a group discussion on a given topic. It assesses their communication skills, ability to express opinions and teamwork.

Group Planning Exercise: Candidates are given a problem-solving task and must develop a group plan. It evaluates their planning, organizational skills, decision-making, and leadership qualities.

Progressive Group Tasks (PGT): Candidates undertake outdoor group tasks that involve physical obstacles and challenges. It assesses their teamwork, cooperation, and ability to handle pressure.

Individual Obstacle Tasks (IOT): Candidates tackle personal physical obstacles to demonstrate their physical fitness, determination, and problem-solving skills.

Command Task: Candidates take turns acting as leaders and giving instructions to complete tasks. It evaluates their leadership qualities, ability to influence others, and decision-making under time constraints.

Final Group Task (FGT): Candidates perform a group task involving higher complexity and coordination. It assesses their leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.

Stage 4: Personal Interview

Candidates face an interview panel comprising experienced officers who ask questions about their background, education, career goals, and motivation to join the Armed Forces. It assesses their personality, communication skills, knowledge, and suitability for an officer-level position.

Stage 5: Conference

The board members convene to discuss and finalize the recommendations for each candidate based on their performance throughout the SSB interview process.

It's important to note that the SSB interview procedure may vary slightly for different branches of the Armed Forces, and additional tests, such as the Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT), may be included for candidates aspiring to join the Air Force as pilots.
