Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli became the quickest Indian to score 4000 runs. At world level he is the second quickest and follows Viv Richards, the cricketer from West Indies. Kohli in his 96th match and batting in 93rd innings reached this milestone. West Indies legend Vivian Richards reached there in 88 innings from 96 matches. Sachin Tendulkar, who recently retired from ODIs, needed 112 innings to get to the feat.

Andhra Pradesh government is implementing the “Jeevandan” project. ‘Jeevandan’ will oversee all aspects, including regulation, distribution and spreading awareness on deceased donor organs to deserving patients. The basic premise behind the programme is to encourage deceased organ transplantation instead of living organ donation.

Desert regions of Rajasthan
Recently, a leading environmental group working for conservation of flora and fauna has sought intervention of the External Affairs Ministry to put pressure on Pakistan to ban hunting of rare birds, Houbara bustards, which has drastically reduced India’s share of their annual winter migration and affected the desert eco-system. The hunting of Houbara bustards, taxonomically classified as Clamydotis undulata , through falconry in Pakistan has led to an alarming decline in their numbers. The poaching mainly in Sindh province along the international border is not only a cause of serious concern for India but also in violation of wildlife protection laws and international conventions.

Recently, the declaration of the National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad as an institution of national importance through legislation got the Union Cabinet nod. The status will authorise it to award degrees to students. It will fulfil need to professionalise, standardise and internationally benchmark professional design education in the country so as to take full advantage of the opportunities in the industry.
