SSC CHSL Exam Pattern - Updated!

SSC CHSL exam is higher secondary level exam. You should need to know about its Syllabus and Exam Pattern. The recruitment process has been divided into three tiers such as tier 1 (Objective), tier 2 (Subjective) and tier 3(skill test/typing test). The final merit of the successful candidates would be determined on the basis of total score obtained by them in Tier-I and Tier-II. Tier III exam is of qualifying nature.

SSC CHSL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

  • SSC CHSL tier 1 has four subjects General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative aptitude, English comprehension. 
  • The questions asked in it are objective (Multiple Choice Type).
  • The candidates who are visually handicapped (VH) or suffering from Cerebral Palsy will be given an extra time of 20 minutes to solve the question paper.

NOTE: There will be a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer in the SSC CGL Tier-1 exam.

SSC CHSL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL Tier-2 exam will be conducted in Offline/ Pen and Paper mode as it is descriptive-type paper. The candidates who are visually handicapped (VH) or suffering from Cerebral Palsy can solve to question paper in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

For VH and candidates Who suffering from Cerebral Palsy: 80 Minutes

SSC CHSL Tier 3 Exam Pattern (Skill Test/ Typing Test)

Tier 3 Exam is known as a skill test or typing test which is of qualifying nature. 

Skill Test for Data Entry Operator (DEO):

  • Skill Test is mandatory for Data Entry Operators. No candidate is exempted from appearing in the Skill Test. 
  • Data Entry  Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on a computer‟ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage. 
  • The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes.
  • A sample paragraph in English, containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions, will be given to each candidate. The candidates who will be able to type the given data in due course will be shortlisted for further process.

For DEO in Comptroller and Auditor General of India (C&AG): 

  • The 'speed of 15000 key depressions per hour on Computer‟ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage. 
  • The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes.
  • The printed matter in English containing about 3700-4000 key-depressions would be given to each candidate.
  • Candidates eligible for a scribe as per paras will be given compensatory time of 5 minutes. Therefore the duration of Skill Test for such candidates will be 20 minutes.

For LDC/JSA and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant:

  • The medium of Typing Test will be Hindi and English. The candidates will have to opt for the medium of Typing Test (i.e. either Hindi or English) in the online Application Form.
  • Candidates opting for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) and those opting for Hindi medium should have a typing speed of 30 words per minute (w.p.m.). 
  • 35 w.p.m. and 30 w.p.m. correspond to about 10500 key depressions per hour and about 9000 key depressions per hour respectively.
  • The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.
  • Candidates(Personality disability) eligible for a scribe as per paras will be given a compensatory time of 5 minutes. Therefore the duration of Typing Test for such candidates will be 15 minutes.

"Dictators will be provided to those Visually Handicaped (VH) candidates for the Typing test who have opted for Scribe in the online Application Form. The Passage Dictator will read out the passage to VH candidate within the allotted time period.

Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates who claim to be permanently unfit to take the Test may be exempted from appearing at the test, ONLY IF he/ she submits a Certificate (With the approval of the Commission) from the competent Medical Authority ensuring the illness of the candidate."
