1. The provisions related to Panchayati Raj have been discussed in the original Constitution under Part 9 by the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992 (Article 243). Part 9, under the heading ‘Panchayats’, contains provisions related to Panchayati Raj up to Articles 243-243O (243-243O).

4. Panchayati Raj system was introduced in Rajasthan by the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

8. The concept of Panchayati Raj in the Indian Constitution is enshrined in the Directive Principles of State Policy.

9. The tenure of Panchayats is fixed for five years but it can be dissolved even before the tenure.

 1. The initial Act covered 108 services of 15 major government departments, envisaged time-bound performance of duties by government officials and provided for cash penalties for offenders.

3. To protect the rights of citizens: The objective of this Act is to provide the citizens with the right to receive their public services in the stipulated time frame and with quality.

4. Simplifying government procedures: The objective of this Act is to make government procedures simple and transparent so that citizens find it easier to understand and follow them.
